LGB stands for Lehmann Gross Bahn - the "Lehmann Big Train" in German. Starting in in 1968, LGB, introduced large-scale model trains based on German meter-gauge prototypes. Suitable for use indoors or out, the large size, rugged construction and exacting detail made the line a favorite with modelers. Soon after their introduction the 1: 22.5 scale trains were referred to as ‘G’ (Garden) scale trains.
